Rules[]

Kid Chameleon 2 is a tabletop RPG best played with up to 2-8 players. Each player must have their own character or they can use the pre-generated characters.

The game is best played on a table. You also need a pencil and eraser to keep track of changes in your characters health, lives, statistics known as (attributes in this game) among other things on your character sheet.

A character’s attributes are determined by rolling a six sided dice 4 times or using 4 six sided dice and are determined by the number on the dice. Players then assign the dice values to the Stats available to them (Power, Protection Koolness and Know How - based on the skills they want specialise in)

There are 5 attributes for your character;

Vitality   - This dictates a character’s health and wellbeing.  All players start with 3 Vitality points and the creation dice rolls do not apply to this value.

This relates to how many times a character dies in battle without having to start over with a new character - for you retro video game fans - think of vitality as you lives. Vitality is how many lives a player has and decreases by 1 if their hp reaches 0 once the vitality score is 0 if their Hp hits 0 when their vitality is at 0 it’s game over and they have to start with a new character.

All characters have 3 hit points that can be increased by wearing helmets. Most helmets also have 3 hit points however Iron Knight has 5 hit points when wearing a helmet. Characters gain the helmet’s hit points on top of their base hit points.

Eg: if Daniel turns into Iron Knight he’d have a total of 8 hit points. Once his helmet runs out of hitpoints he reverts back to his base hit points.

Know-How- This dictates a character's mental capacity and relates to their ability to problem solve and their intellect.

Power- This dictates a character's physical strength and also determines the amount of damage a character can do to their enemies.

Protection- This dictates a character’s ability to defend themselves and decrease damage they can take from enemies.

Koolness- This dictates the characters ability to be social and interact with other players without having arguments how friendly a character is to people and overall the vibe and feeling the player gives off to NPCS and other players

Each player starts with 10 Diamonds that serve as the game's currency. Depending on the realm, diamonds have different colours but their value is equal to one. 10 Diamonds, 50 diamonds and 100 Diamonds are worth their respective number; they can only be found in Prize blocks that sometimes can be found in the overworld but mostly after fights.

The player will start the game with 1 Hit Point replenish soda. That is used to heal damage to a player's hit points. They also have 3 Ankhs they work like lives

Each player chooses a class to role play as the choices are Re-Coder, Modder, Social media buff,  then select 2 class based skills to use.

Re-Coders- A character in this class can manipulate the game's code to help buff, heal and revive damaged players in game.

Heal (PRO +1 Heal a teammate or their helmet by 1D6 damage

Power up! (POW) +2 Adding this code to your ally will up their attack power by +2 for 3 turns

Revive (VTL) +3  Revives a fallen ally with half their HP uses up 1 vitality point on the person revived

Modders- A character in this class can manipulate the game's code to change assets and alter some areas in the game. Skills don’t apply to the base stats for these  it’s the flat roll plus the skills modifier

Generate Worm (KH) +3

Modify code (KH) +2

Disguise (KH) +1

Social Media Buffs- A character in this class is all about being social. They enjoy chatting and making friends as well as gossip because a friend you may never meet in IRL is the best friend you can have.

Gain trust (KOOL) +2 - Your player tries to get an NPC to trust them by asking them to fall in front of them to catch them.

To me! (KOOL)+3 Your player shows off and your character becomes the centre of attention and enemies will only attack them.

Gameplay[]

The game uses a turn based system both in the overworld and in combat.

The difficulty of tasks is determined by the difficulty chart. Each banding is as follows:

Easy: If the task is easy you only have to beat a 6.

Medium: Moderate difficulty you have to beat 12.

Hard: If it’s hard the player must beat 16 (not available in quick start).

To roll for a difficulty check, a player must roll 2d6 and add the stat from the attribute they decide, in agreement with the GM. If they roll ABOVE the required difficulty value, they succeed, if BELOW, they fail and can attempt again on their next round if they wish.

Example: Dylan is trying to deactivate a security system but the combination seems to be quite challenging. The GM sets the difficulty of the task. As the task is of moderate difficulty, Dylan has to beat a 12. Dylan will use his Know-How skill of 6, and then rolls 2d6 to try and beat the 12. Dylan rolls a 2 and a 3, which makes his final score 11. He doesn’t crack the security system this time, but on his next attempt, he rolls a 2 and a 6 for a total of 14. He passes the roll and hacks into the security system.

To complete tasks the player needs to roll 2 six sided dice, then combine the flat roll with the needed base attribute (this can be found on the character sheet). If the player is using a single die, make sure to have a piece of paper and pencil ready to make the calculations.

Players can do a lot of things during their non-combat turns;

Talk to NPC’s

Talk to other Players

Purchase items

Solve puzzles and problems (requires dice)

Exploration/movement

Prize block table[]

Project-Kid-Chameleon-Icon
Dice range to determine Possible prizes in sections
High Tier 16-18 100 Diamonds or an Anka
11-15 Helmet battery  50 Diamonds,
Middle Tier 7-10 Healing items

Low Tier 1-3 1 Diamond,

Combat[]

Sometimes during your Wildside adventures you’ll come across monsters and creatures that want to slow you down or destroy you.

The GM rolls 1 D6 to determine the amount of enemies you face

Enemies can catch you off guard and get a first attack; this can also happen if you catch them off guard.

You and your Gm will both roll 1 six sided dice to determine if they ambush you if it’s a 6 or 1 you both have to reroll. If you beat the GM you get the first attack, if they beat you the enemy gets the first attack… if it’s a draw the battle plays as normal. In battles you can attack, defend or flee.

They each use Power, Protection, and Know How attributes respectively. Instead of attacking, your character can try to flee, fleeing is again determined by beating the enemies roll it uses your Know-How. You can escape a battle but you won’t gain any WZP from your battle even if you’ve beaten enemies but if you fail the enemy gets a free attack. Defending is determined by your Protection points if you choose to defend you can’t attack but you won’t take any damage from attacks if you succeed. You can also use a special attack too but that will cost you diamonds but you can do some massive damage. (Full rules in the Main Game Book)

Helmets[]

Characters can use helmets to protect themselves and help with different abilities while they have their helmet on they transform into different characters each with their own abilities that replace your base characters own for as long as they stay active. Not all helmets are available in the quick start.

(Returning) Red Stealth - A scarlet samurai who wields a sword. Base power increases by double if value is below 3 or add plus 2 if value is above 4. You gain 3 extra hit points

(Returning) Maniaxe- An axe wielding psycho who uses throwing Axes. Base power remains the same but you can hit all enemies at once by flinging axes at them you gain 3 extra hit points

(Brand new) Ninjanfu - A cute little female ninja cladded in a flashy purple gi wielding some solid gold nunchucks. Protection increases by double if value is below 3 or add plus 2 if value is above 4  and you gain 4 extra hit points, equip the nunchucks and do two attacks in 1 turn for your first attack

(Returning) Iron Knight- Don that silver clad armour and increase your defence your base hit points increases by 5

(Returning) Juggernaut - Soldier of the underworld ride a tank and fire skull projectiles Increases base power by double if value is below 3 or add plus 2 if value is above 4 and can hit 2 enemies at a time you gain 3 extra hit points and plus 2 to your Protection attribute

Helmet selection process

A character can start with 1 out of 5 helmets that can be used for both overworld and combat. Try to choose one that will give you an advantage to a weaker attribute or one that’ll be effective in a certain situation. A player can put on a helmet at any time but once that helmet runs out of hitpoints you revert back to base stats. Helmets need batteries to recharge. You can buy batteries from stores. Without batteries. You can only use helmets once and only until they run out of hitpoints. You obtain your helmet from Brad’s Partner and Casey’s best friend Suzi Mccarthy before going into Wildside.

The Case of Susie’s Lost Love - Pre-Gen Mini Session.[]

[GM Reads this block of dialouge and story]

Prologue:[]

It’s been 30 years since Kid Chameleon a.k.a. Casey Kidd went to the VR game of the 90s  Wildside to rescue children from an AI who broke his programming and escaped into the real world. He was kidnapping the children who played the game. After going through 100+ levels and wearing helmets that gave him special powers. He confronted the rogue AI and won but he was never returned to the real world then the British government shut down Wildside to prevent the accident from ever happening again. Now 30 years later it seems history is repeating itself and this is where our story begins.

“You and your peers arrive at the Willesden Green arcade and you see the Wyldside 2.0 Cabinet and it is glowing. A voice is heard.  “Welcome challengers, are you ready to enter Wyldside 2.0” The cabinet opened and a glowing blue light was emanating from it . “Time for the next adventure…” the voice loudly called out.

(GM - this voice is the voice of Frederick Wyldside. A.k.a Heady Metal - the main big bad guy of our game…but this is a secret just for you at the minute!)

Standing by the cabinet, a mature slender lady wearing a striped white and yellow T-shirt and grey baggy trousers. Her short black hair was worn down to accentuate her youthful radiance and she looked extremely good for her age of 45 with only 1 or two wrinkles . She notices your presence and comes over.

“This cabinet appeared out of nowhere just the other day. It brings back bad memories. Wildside, a new version of this game that caused a moral panic 30 years ago. Who thought it was a good idea to bring it back? My boyfriend and my best friend and neighbour are still trapped in the game. The game was shut down by the British government due to disappearances of people playing the game. All people lost in the game were brought back to the real world but Casey known as Kid Chameleon in Wildside and Brad are still missing . I don't know if he won that climatic battle, he’s been lost for 30 years”. She was in quite a lot of panic. I know it’s been a long time  but I swear both of them are alive somewhere.

(If a player is playing as canon character Dylan Sandovoti, she notices him and has an additional dialogue.)

Dylan, you're wanting to play the sequel… She held her hand to her heart and looked at him worried. “You haven’t given up on him either. I'm so glad we’ve stayed friends all this time. I would come with you but I can't stand the fact this game has returned and refuse to be any part of it, however it was my fault for recommending the game to him. Poor Casey…

If you (number of players)  are so keen on going into the game please be careful… I’m staying in the real world where I’m safe… She put her hand on her heart. “Oh…” she looks surprised. “I forgot…here you may need these.” She holds some cards up. They had pictures of helmets on them with a variety of colours. It seemed they were slightly faded but you can still tell what they are  Hum… I wonder “ These are the game cards from the original game. I kept them to remind me of Casey and I like to keep souvenirs. They may work in this version of the game, can't say for certain but I'm not going in so I don't need them and they’ve just been gathering dust for 30 years They look like helmets? They were a thing in the first game, maybe they’ll play a similar part in this game. They work like power ups. Pick one, it’ll help you on your way”

(Players choose a helmet to take with them and the cabinet opens and the players go into it.)

“Please be safe and bring back the father of my child. I’ve been married for 15 years but I still have good memories of Bradly. Please bring him back. I miss him so much.”

Mission 1: Welcome to Wyldside[]

As you enter Wyldside you find yourself in a marshland there is a sign nearby saying Area 1: Mossy Marsh. You see a few other people, probably other players running about playing army crawling in the mud shooting targets and the suchlike and one player seems to be the main leader bossing everyone around. He hasn’t noticed your presence yet…

(GM- Ask the team of players to roll a 2D6 to try and get the leader's attention; they only need a 6 if they succeed; they'll meet Sergeant Major Stanley.)

“Ey up, new people must be noobs” The male said. He had a Yorkshire accent but it seemed slightly off like maybe he was putting it on and hiding something about his true voice.  He brings up a screen and sees that the people he’s just encountered are Level 1 and half way to level 2… You guys could do some training. Would you like to join us… We can teach you new techniques and if you do well I’ll give you these prize blocks

(He has 2 x the amount of players Prize Blocks)

“You want to get in some special training?”

(The group will teach the players the basics of fighting, defending and fleeing because they’re so helpful they freeze their HP so it can’t fall under 1 as it’s a tutorial. You will later be interrupted by a 3 headed floating executive toy which will serve as the boss of this mission. You get auto healed if needed and HP will fall as normal at the end of the boss you each gain 75WZP and 1 Ankha that means they can up their vitality points by 1)

After beating the boss you wave to Major Stanley and his companions as you see lights at the end of the swamplands. You follow those lights and you end up in Wyld'z Realm, the main hub world of the game.

(Now you can calculate the WZP for each of the players, based on their experience)

Mission 2: Wyld’z Realm Ruse[]

After you leave the swamplands of Mossy Marsh You arrive in a large town there is a huge purple and yellow neon sign saying WILD’Z REALM in all capitals. You see players interacting, talking about things and purchasing, Other players being all social and everything looked all fine and dandy  then there was a huge puff of smoke and that tranquillity turned into chaos as  you see a few ninja’s going about raiding things and all the NPCS shouting and screaming. You see a jewellery store being robbed and a lady shouting as her security guards get beaten up and lie there unconscious.

The ninja were up to no good and were stealing artefacts and other important items.

The Jewellery store lady was called Peridot Greenly it seems the lady of the Jewellers store needed to get the jewellery due to her sister's wedding and it seems she’s been holding on to her stuff for her while she’s away She calls you over looking very worried. “Oh my adventures please you got to help me… some vandal's hae been steaing my sister's jewwlery. I've been holding onto it for her while she's away. Please can you help me." ”

As your next mission It’s your job to return the items she’s looking after for her sister to her. There are 4 items missing,  a pendant, broach, bracelet and a necklace. Peridot did gain some information about what happened but she seems too shocked to remember it all. She remembers that all the items have been scattered around the city

(If you’re able to calm her down, she states the item's whereabouts read the below texts to find the locations)

Silver pendent-[]

“From what I can recall the Pendent was buried somewhere. I think it was between the city square and the Frederick Wildside Memorial Wishing well north of the city…

(players will find it in an X bary spot  to the flower bed between the Well and in the City square they will follow need to follow the dirt trail left by the ninja )

Amethyst Brooch-[]

“From what I recall Aventurine my older sisters brooch was thrown in the sewer because one of the other players tried to take him but failed as he fled using smoke pellets”

(Players will venture into Wyld’z Sewers and will have to explore the area a bit as it’s caught on the railings of the Sewers Iit could find and wasn’t lost in the sewage and they have to chase a rat around the sewer it seems the rat grabbed it as it was attracted to the shine)

Moldavite Bracelet[]

“The most expensive of her collection and her favourite. I believe it was hanging from the power pylon after the ninja were playing catch with it… If they broke it my sister would most definitely cut me out of her life”

(Players will find the bracelet hanging off a power pylon just past the weapon’s shop! It’s conducting electricity so you’ll have to find a way to remove it without getting an electric shock)

Peridot Necklace[]

“I Believe it was thrown in the meeting area near the park, at least that is where I think I saw it.”

(Ask your players to do a perception check that will require them to add their Know-How to their flat roll. If they pass by beating 12 then they notice that a Mega Skull Hopper is wearing the necklace and they can only win it back by tackling and defeating the Skull Hopper if they fail then they see the necklace by itself. Lying on the ground as the skull hopper was blending in with the ground. If they go to pick it up they get ambushed by 2 Mega Skull hoppers.)

(After recovering all the items you get introduced to Shrunken Head Ninja who serves as the boss for this mission. Gm- read the following bold paragraph out loud )

After beating Shrunken Head Ninja You head back to Peridot’s Jewellers and return the items to her and she gratefully thanks you for your help.

“Oh thank you so much, my big sister would’ve flipped her lid if I lost all her jewellery that I was supposed to be looking after. Let me award you (2 X Prize blocks for each player and 25 Diamonds)  She sees the same ninja who stole the items in the first place. And you Hooligans better stay off my property from now on or else I'm getting the police involved. Can you teach those thieves a lesson? I’ll reward you with 50 diamonds each.” You hear a gruff voice “Hey heroes”, a voice called from the courtyard. My allies stole those things fair and square. How dare you get in the way of our mission. Get over here

(The gruff voice is the ninja’s leader Shrunken Head Ninja)

( you can now calculate your players WZP for this mission based on the experience)

After you recover the missing jewellery and defeat the Shrunken Head Ninja you realise he disappeared in a flash of smoke. Did you actually defeat him? It seems you did but you realise that there was a note where he once stood.

Mission 3: The Clues of the Missing Boyfriend.[]

“Dearest Suzi, if you're reading this I have good news. Time goes slowly here in this realm so when I see our soon to be son I'll only be like 5-10 years older and I can't wait to be back in the real world.

The bad news is I'm at risk of being under the Control of Frederick Wyldside AKA Heady Metal and he’s sent you or others on a quest to find me. Casey is being held in a fortress far into the game. He did win but Heady Metal cheated and made a clone of himself after Casey beat him, he screwed with his game code and kidnapped him along with me” Can’t wait to see you again…  love from Brad Simmons.

It seems the letter was double sided.

( There is a map with a few items and instructions written in joined up old fashioned writing. It was handwritten by Brad.

On the other side of the letter there was a map with 4 different places. Casey’s Statue, Pelee Island, The Thunderous Tundra and The Evilmister's Aimless Fortress. There was a stone statue of Kid Chameleon/Casey on the far right and by some convenience it seems that the team is quite close to it already. In the middle of the city there stood a statue of Casey and an engraving saying: ‘This is to commemorate the hero of Wildside. Screenname Kid Chameleon/ Real name Casey Kidd who rescued the people who were kidnapped and trapped in the game. They have been returned to the real world.

Puzzle info - leads to map 2

Examine the statue to see if something stands out?

(Ask your players to do a perception check that will require them to add their Know-How to their flat roll. If they pass by beating 12 they’ll see that there was something on the edge of the statue’s glasses that is map two they’ll have to think of ways to obtain it)

“I see you read my map.. This is the Statue of Casey to commemorate his victory over Heady Metal. If you go to the beachfront in Wyld’z realm you can grab a ferry to Pelee Island. My next message to my whereabouts will be there on the tallest palm tree between the most cragged rock of the Island So fight on heroes.”

“All aboard for Pelee Island, last call for Pelee Island… we’re leaving shortly….” All aboard!”

(Ask your players to do a perception check that will require them to add their Know-How to their flat roll. If they pass by beating 12 they’ll notice Fredrick Wyldside a.k.a Heady Metal behind the statue and he is blasting some kind of energy which animates the statue.

After battling and defeating Casey’s statue and saving the civilians from the reanimated Casey’s Statue. You see the captain standing by his ship calling people to board the ferry for Pelee Island.

“Who did that with such disregard for our heroes' legacy.  That was so terrifying” He was still somewhat on edge but calmed down quickly. I must thank you so much adventurers, tell you what, It’s usually 25 diamonds per round trip but since you saved our lives you can have this one for free.

After a nice and relaxing voyage with no issue your party arrives at Pelee Island. The island was lush green with flowers everywhere and a few sandy areas. It was like a luscious meadow of green and yellow.

(All HP and helmets will be restored after this. Players are free to explore the island as they please but try to motivate them to keep the story going. Brad’s 3rd letter is between the tallest palm tree of 5 on the little beach and between the most jagged rock of the little beach)

After you retrieve Brad’s letter a coconut falls from the tree and becomes large  and grows a face and snatches the letter back laughing.

“Oh I'm sorry, did you need that… You’re not going to Thunderous Tundra without fighting me. Fredrick told me to get rid of you and that I will do!”

(This is Miniboss 2 Coconutter. It looks like a cup of coconut juice and he has a little purple paper parasol on his back …and one of Fredrick’s ally’s. )

After defeating Coconutter you notice he drops a key item, a snowy looking key…what’s it for? maybe you should ask around, maybe some of the residents might know to take it to the captain, he might know what it is… use this an as an opportunity to socialise with the other people on the ship

( A few of the voyagers have heard of it but don’t know what it's for. Others say that the captain loves collecting treasure so ask him. If the player’s show that to the captain he’ll take you to Thunderous Tundra. Which has been forbidden to enter since the hail became torrential and wiped out most of the hamlet's population from freak thunderstorms. )

(If you show the key to him he’ll have this dialogue)

“That’s the snow key with which we can go to Thunderous Tundra… but what is your business with the Thunderous Tundra? It was shut down due to freak weather and hail the size of golf balls…decimating most of the population. No one dares go there…”

(If the players mention Heady Metal he has this additional dialogue)

Heady Metal hasn't heard that name in a while…Heady Metal was terminated; He no longer exists after Kid Chameleon saved Wildside and destroyed him…

(If the players mention Brad. )

“Bradley? Haven’t seen him since Kid Chameleon saved us.  He’s not in this area anymore, He's probably back in the real world with his sweetheart.  After Kid Chameleon defeated Heady Metal. Are you sure that your information is valid? You got proof he’s still trapped in Wildside?”

(If you show the captain the letters from Brad. He’ll be convinced and he’ll take you there. )

“Gordon Bennet, he's been trapped in the game for this long… Time travels slowly in this realm. I knew it was a while but I wasn't sure how long and if Heady Metal has returned may god have mercy on us all… okay you’ve convinced me, we'd better head out.”

Once you arrive at Thunderous Tundra you see most houses completely in ruins and the place looks deserted… you see something in the distance that was pretty far away… It was a creepy looking fortress. It was covered in fog so you could only tell bits and pieces about it but with its design it certainly looked like something you didn’t want to explore without good reason. Then you see a bunch of hail balls form into a demonic looking snow golem.

“Who disturbs the tundra that is my home…” it seemed the golem could speak however he was slow and sluggish but had a rather gruff voice. “Are you trying to take over my turf… Get your own… I was here first…” he was getting angry the longer the players were standing there… “Okay you know what, I'm so peeved right now I want to smash something… I SMASH YOU!”

After defeating the golem he calms down and apologises.

“Sorry it’s just been so long since I had a good fight.  It was fun to scare all the civilians but after they left I've been so lonely…  You're very strong. What do you want as your reward for beating me? A prize block? Are you looking to get to Elsewhere Evilmister’s fortress?

(Ask your players to do a perception check if they get a score of at least 12 they will see a signpost with very faint writing that reads Elsewhere Evilmister's fortress NO TRESPASSING! If the players follow the sign they’ll eventually reach the fortress… Where Fredrick Wyldside is waiting for them)

A white spiky haired big headed humanlike figure stands by the door of the fortress slouched on the wall. He had dark green eyes but looked a bit weird as his outer eyes weren't white, they were black. He also wore hooped earrings and had a dark purple jacket and red t-shirt with a red cape and wore purple and white trousers.

``Well well so you’re the new heroes that have been messing with my army. Do you know who I am… I’m Heady Metal Version Two Point Zero Dot Executable File.  Though I'm now known as Fredrick Wyldside.exe after my maker, Frederick Wildside. That's wild with an I, not Wyld with a Y. Seriously though Wild should be spelt with a Y for the reason why., well In this highly intelligent program’s opinion it looks and sounds better.

My maker passed away in the real world last week… I renamed myself in his honour and to avoid detection from the human’s government. He’s been wanting a sequel to the first game for ages but became too elderly and infirm to work on it. So I worked on it myself with my own superior intellect and saved the code of the first game to my memory… though some things were corrupted from my battle with Kid Chameleon who I now know is called Casey Kidd, back in the human world. But enough about me. Let me guess you want Brad… Well here he is… Fredrick/ Heady Metal opens the door of his fortress and a man with blond hair stands by the door. He wore a grey jacket  with navy blue top and had a dark blue tie. He looked unharmed but was just staring into the distance completely unemotive, something seemed off…

Fredrick smirked as he stepped aside after tapping him on the shoulder, “See, not a hologram, that’s him in the code and flesh…”

“He’s yours, take him… I’ve got the stuff I wanted from him anyhow…” Wyldside is so much better now that I've brought it back and kidnapped the original hero… Chameleon.

Brad glares at the party angrily as if the mention of Chameleon triggered something in him.  “Oops, did I set him off…  I totally forgot he’s not the same Bradly Simmons as before… He smiled crookedly. “It was stupid he didn’t keep his identiy in game and real life identity separate and used his real name… in game. That’s the first rule of the internet: You’re primitive lifeforms, it made kidnapping him all the easier… “Oh well I don’t need new heroes to damage the game reputation again. Creator, this is for you. Destroy them!” He puts his hand out grinning evilly. As Brad charges at the players

After the battle against Brad. He returns to his senses now that his code was back to normal and he looked confused.

Wha… What happened… I wasn’t myself… He was quite drained from the fight…”

Fredrick glares: “Useless lifeform…Fine, just fine, that idea was a bust.  You humans are so persistent with your loyalty and friendship… Who needs it, I work best by myself anyway!  I'll just get rid of you another way!” and pulls a lever and a flash of light. He vanishes and you and Bradley end up somewhere unfamiliar
